Consejos para prevenir robos en el camión

Nowadays, the theft of goods on the road is very common in the transport sector. However, GPS technology has evolved a lot and has teamed up with truck drivers more than with thieves. But these systems have not put an end to thefts; this crime is always present in the road transport world.

In order to help reduce the risks your truck face and enhance your security, we have prepared a series of essential measures for truck drivers to implement on a daily basis to prevent the theft of goods, fuel and of the vehicle itself.

  • Choose a secure place for your stops: There is no doubt that the best option is for you to stop at a service area with a secure car park with 24 hour surveillance, with restricted access for pedestrians and that can only be accessed by those that have parked their vehicle there. Something else to be borne in mind is that the vehicle should be recognised on the way in and out with a license plate reader. And, to prevent the coupling and uncoupling of semi-trailers, vehicles should enter and leave with their complete units.
  • Security systems: You can set security systems, such as an alarm in the loading area or in the fuel tank. You are also recommended to park in such a way that it is difficult to access your truck. For instance, parking next to a wall so that it is difficult to open the cargo box.
  • Be especially alert when loading and unloading. Minor thefts take place when loading and unloading, since the goods may be unattended. For this reason, you must follow the instructions and make sure there is no problem and that the goods reach the corresponding destination.
  • Call the police if necessary. Sometimes, when drivers hear strange noises in the cargo box, they decide to go and have a look instead of contacting the relevant authorities. It is advisable to call the police, since some organised gangs may be resort to violence.
