Why you should change your truck’s air filter

Your truck’s air filter is key to the operation of your engine, yet we often overlook its maintenance. The function of the air filter is to prevent dust and dirt from entering the engine, which in turn causes it to become clogged over time and needs to be replaced.

Modern trucks generally have two air filters, one for the cabin and one for the engine; both need to be changed periodically but not necessarily at the same time. In both cases, it is recommended to make the change between 20,000km and 40,000km, depending on the conditions in which it has been driven; we are talking about hot weather, state of the roads…

What happens if you don’t change the air filter

Over time, your truck’s air filter will become clogged, causing:

  • The engine will have to work harder to get clean air to complete the combustion cycle.
  • This overwork will cause the engine to overheat, resulting in increased fuel consumption.
  • Lack of acceleration.

Timely air filter change has significant benefits:

  • Increased fuel efficiency. A clean air filter will provide the engine with enough air to burn the fuel without overworking.
  • Reduces emissions. Imbalanced air flow has a direct impact on exhaust emissions by polluting the environment.
  • Extends engine life. A properly maintained air filter prevents dirt and other contaminants from reaching the combustion chamber or engine.
  • Quick and economical replacement. This component is one of the least expensive parts you can make, you can even do it yourself by first making sure it is designed for the make and model of truck.
